Hello again. I was wondering where do you live? I'm from Hudsonville Michigan. We have several rivers and Lake Michigan to float on. What's like where you are at?

I live in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountains in northern California, between the Pacific Ocean and Lake Tahoe (closer to the latter) and very close to some great whitewater.

Hello everybody I just made an introduction thread. I'll post here also, I live in northern Michigan in a small town called charlevoix. I happen to be right on lake Michigan about a mile from it. We also have lake charlevoix which connect right to lake Michigan. I guess I'm fortunate that there are several Lakes in Michigan near me and a select few rivers. Anyways this is where I'm from

Hi Sanmarie,
Glad to welcome another Ky. paddler! What areas of the state do you paddle? I am between Green River Lake & Lake Cumberland in South Central Ky. If you’re ever in my area and want to paddle just send a PM.

Hi All,
Las Vegas, Nevada. Yeah, I know, out in the middle of the desert! But we do have Lake Mead and Lake Mojave that are about 15 and 25 miles away respectively. There are a few rivers about the state that would be navigable with a kayak besides the Colorado as well. Then, there is always going out to the Left Coast which presents the Pacific as well as a ton of other waterways to investigate, so I should be able to find a few places to set my sights on.
As to what it is like on Lake Mead or Mojave, well both are rather large impoundments on the Colorado River. Lake Mojave has a lot more current movement than Lake Mead. Both have a large number of power craft from boats to jet skis not to mention sail boats and even a paddle wheeler in season. So sometimes traffic can be a consideration. The one constant in either place is the sun, lots of it. That means come prepared with some sort of protection be it clothing, sun screen or a cover of some sort. As Lake Mead is a bit on the large size, even though it has lost a lot of water, you can expect to see just about any sort of condition from flat calm to wind whipped breakers and waves that can drop you low enough in a kayak to be looking at nothing but water and sky before you top out on the next roller. As it is in the desert, storms can come up seemingly out of nowhere and in a heartbeat. Holding on to an aluminum shafted paddle is not my idea of a good thing to do in an electrical storm so getting to shore and some sort of cover can lead to some Olympic type efforts to reach shore. Having been caught in an aluminum canoe during one of these little gems, I know how it goes.

I am in SW Missouri Springfield area, We have some very nice rivers around this part to kayak, The Buffalo water trail is a bit south of us. Our lakes down here are Flood Control reservoirs a lot different from the lakes of MN where I am from. But the nice thing about these is that the Corps owns right around the lakes and you can land just about anywhere you want, the houses are not built right on the lakes (like MN). Oh one biggie we dont have as many mosquitoes as MN. Its all good.
