The USA Canoe / Kayak National Marathon Team trials will be held in Gainesville, Ga., on Lake Lanier the weekend of May 9-10. USA Canoe/Kayak membership is required for the trials event and may be completed online at USA Canoe/Kayak (http://www.usack.org). Marathon racing is a discipline of kayak racing recognised by the International Canoe Federation. It is a long distance event of 30k for the trials event. Shorter distance races will be held for other classes such as sea kayaks and touring kayaks of shorter length.

Hosted by Lanier Canoe Kayak, the event will be held at the 1996 Olympic venue for sprint canoe, kayak and rowing. This is a world class venue with the longest natural straightaway on the east coast measuring almost 3 kilometers.

In addition to the trials event, LCKC will also host the inaugural Southeastern Dragon boat 10k challenge. We think this is the first event of its kind in the U.S.

Registration is available on line or by mail. For registration information, contact Pete Smith @ 770.654.7900, tvshootr@yahoo.com or LCKC at laniercanoekayak@gmail.com

You might want to change the title a bit.
(Marathon is usually used as a running race)
Well, tell me what to change it to and I will
Okay?

I don't know what a bolero has to do with kayak racing but the U.S. National team trials were a success.

We have also just finished the Lake Placid Invitational for 2009. This is a challenge regatta between the U.S. and Canoe Kayak Canada. This race is put on by Terry Kent, a three time Olympian in sprint kayak. The Canadians won this year by only four points over two days of racing. This is one of the tightest competitions in the history of the regatta.

At the LPI, we also chose a junior national team to represent the U.S. at the Junior World Championships in Moscow. You can follow the racing on the USACK website.

It's a great sport but a small one in the U.S.. There is tremendous opportunity for success here in this sport as there aren't many people in it here, we need more folks so come join us.
