View Full Version : My First Trip

After days of rain, I finally got my new boat into the water. From the second I got off shore and floating in the open I knew I had a good stable ride. I have a Wilderness Pamlico 120 with a Carlisle Day Tripper paddle. Since this is my first “sit inside” kayak and only my second trip in a kayak I was concerned. My partner for the trip had to cancel at the last minute because of work so I was on my own.
After playing around close to shore to get the feel of the boat, I headed off to explore. Wow what a feeling! During the summer, we spend most of our time on our pontoon boat on Lake Anna in Virginia. Even though I was in the same cove I always go to, the kayak gave me a chance to get into the shallows that I could never get to before. I found places that I had only seen on the map before. I did a total of 4.5 miles in 1hr 17min. I covered flat shallow water, deep open water, cross winds and even took on a few wakes from other power boats.
This is going to be so much fun……………..

I second the request by rcurry. The Wilderness is a great company. I was looking at the Pungo but decided on a SOT Tarpon 100 for the wife and a 120 for me. I did this for the ease of getting in and out. Also a bit easier to recover in a tip. Enjoy your ride and when you get a chance look at some of the training videos on utube on equipment and how to recover in the event of a tip. Practice while close to shore how to re-enter while in the water and pump the water out. Enjoy the yak.

I was more worried about learning to handle the boat and didn't bring my camera. How do you post pics here anyway?

You need to open an account with a photo hosting site like Photobucket. Photobucket generates an url address when you want to share it. You copy that then when posting here use insert image icont and paste the url in the popup.
