Newbe: Tarpon 140

I have a Wilderness Systems Tarpon 140. Just got it a week ago. I jumped right in on this Kayaking thing. My wife is in a Tarpon 120. I seem to ride a little lower than her in my 140. I weigh 280 lbs. Was this a good choice for me as a beginner? I sure am hooked on this. So far we have gone out the last three weekends. Lakes and 2 different rivers. I live in Central California. My wife intends on going all winter!! I was going to get some high neoprene boots and Gortex pants. Will that work for 40-50 degree weather?:):D

Gortex pants will end up absorbing the water over time. So you will eventually get wet. You could find you a nice dry suit for cheap on ebay. The Tarpon 140 is a perfect boat for you as long as you have no problem controlling it.
