You would get a lot more posters if the signatures did not have the "nofollow" tags.
Google likes the do follow tags better and usually will give out higher page rank along higher ranking the more members you guys get.
just my 2cents.

been looking for a (vBulletin?) forum for a while. i hike in the off season and in the process of completeing AT in August. the hiking forums don't cater to kayakers. im looking for a forum where i can discuss long distant trips.
what are "nofollow" tags?
im going to post this forum on the hiking forums.

What hiking forum are you on? I hike mostly local western New York and PA plus High Peaks in the ADK's

Grout........ you'll have to let me know what "High Peaks" in the ADK's are. I've got to climb Long's Peak very soon before it's done for the season. By mid-Sept. it will likely be covered with snow (14,259'). ;) In-between Labor Day and Memorial Day if we can camp at the base or a little above we can summit by early afternoon and start to get the heck down before the storms roll in.

Last post of a thread should come at the end of the thread instead of coming at first.

your forum already have 3 page rank.. but to increase traffic you must add some general discussion threads this will make your visitor stay there for long time.

Well the boards that I am a part of some of them huge allow, Avatars so people can individualize there posts. This way you know who the post is from just by the avatar and you don't have to read their names this is good when you are quoting others and responding to them.
Next the huge boards have the first post of a thread at the top and the last at the end. This follows the natural progression of a discussion. Some of the threads on these forums are over 150 pages long.

Great suggestions, thank you.
The first to have the oldest first is actually an option that everyone can control themselves. Here is how to change it:
Login in the site and click the Forums tab at the top.
Click the Forms Actions drop down menu at the top.
Click General Settings from the menu.
Scroll down to the Thread Display Options and you will find the second option to be Thread Display Mode.
Make your choice, there is even a help option there to explain all of the options available.
I have set this as the "Default" choice, but it may not push out to existing members. I will check into this more.
Avatars and Profile Pictures: We have struggled with this in the past as it brought lots of inappropriate photos. I will turn it back on and see how it goes. Just remember that this is a PG site with many young members and perhaps everyone can help with reporting inappropriate content.
You can change your Avatar and Profile photo in much the same manner.
Login in the site and click the Forums tab at the top.
Click the Forms Actions drop down menu at the top.
Click Edit Profile from the menu.
Scroll down to the Look at the Menu on the Left and you will find the option to edit the avatar and the profile photo.
