Hi all,

I've made the decision to start kayaking but I really have no idea what kayak to buy. I'm looking for a kayak that's big enough to support me comfortably (I'm 280+). Kayaking is looking like a great way for me to start getting my body back into the shape I had when I was younger.

I would be most interested in a kayak for some light streams and possibly some inland lakes or perhaps even Lake Michigan. Mainly light rivers and calm lakes though.

If anyone has some suggestions, or just wants to say hi, all comments are welcome.

Welcome to the place. In my opinion try your local kayak shop to info on boats and place's to paddle. The net can help you alot with manufacturer info. Watch the weight limits with boats they won't track as well if there near capacity. Lets know what you get. Kayaking is a great sport. Moose

lostdog, welcome to the forum and to a great sport. For some general kayak buying advice, check out How to Choose the Best Kayak For You (http://www.kayakreview.org/kayak-review-how-to-choose-the-best-kayak-for-you) and then once you've narrowed down your choices a little bit let us know what additional questions you have.

Nothing yet.

I've decided to take a class at the local Outdoors store. They put them on and teach the basics of kayaking. I figure I'll go to that and probably be able to make a decent decision once I try it out and talk to a pro.

I appreciate all the tips.
