Hi everyone,

Previously I had a truck to transport my kayak but now I have a smaller 4 door sedan type of vehicle. I'm curious how others transport their yaks on top of their cars. I've seen everything from foam blocks to sophisticated racks.I'm looking to hear if anyone knows whats the best safe and affordable way of doing this on top of a car with a bare roof.

Thanks!

Greetings.....I bought a small boat trailer and reconfigured it to carry 3 kayaks that are up to 17' long. I also used it to store my roto molded plastic kayaks indoors. By building to suit the kayak, I have everything supported where it needs support, which helps prevent "oil canning", in other words misshaping your kayak. If I were hauling one boat....I would use a roof mounted dual saddle mount, the wider each saddle mount is the more support for your boat. Just remember not to strap the boat down too tightly and don't remain parked in the hot sun for more than 15 minutes or you could seriously warp your plastic boat. Foam blocks in my opinon are only suitable for short distances. Basically you have to strap the boat down so tightly it warps......nothing more frustrating than trying to paddle a crooked boat
