Are any of you familiar with “wading socks”? I’ve found some on Amazon and I am tempted to order a pair. When getting in and out of my kayak in the hot summer temps. it’s no big deal because water shoes or sandals will dry quickly. In the colder weather I don’t like my feet being wet and cold so I’m wondering if any of you have used these wading socks to keep your feet dry. If you have tried them tell me what you like or dislike about them. Thanks for any feedback you may offer.

I've been pretty happy with my SealSkinz Waterproof Socks (http://www.kayakreview.org/go/SealSkinzSocks/), which are like a traditional sock but with a waterproof breathable membrane sandwiched between an outer layer of nylon and a moisture-wicking CoolMax inner layer. Another (probably warmer) option would be neoprene socks like the NRS Hydroskin Socks (http://www.kayakreview.org/go/NRSHydroskinSocks/) or the 18 inch tall NRS Boundary Paddling Socks (http://www.kayakreview.org/go/NRSBoundarySocks/). BTW, although I've only had one personal experience with NRS customer service, it was a very good one. I had some NRS gloves with a torn seam and they fixed them for free and mailed them back to me at their expense even though they were no longer within the warranty period. NRS items can also be purchased directly from the NRS store (http://www.kayakreview.org/go/NRS/).

I bought kayaking boots on Amazon. About $80, and completely waterproof, knee high and insulated.

Did you purchase the 5 mm or the 7 mm neoprene uppers? I'm looking at some paddling boots in order to extend the paddling season but I know I'm not going to venture out once the water temps dip to dangerous temps.

Hi. I bought some neoprene socks for my daughter to use. They work like a wetsuit for your feet but I found that because they are so thick you would probably need two pairs of water shoes which adds to the cost. Just wearing water shoes with a full-length wetsuit worked for me without bothering with socks. As she's got older she doesn't bother with the socks now either
