My wife of 39 years and I have recently gotten into recreational kayaking, and I've just joined this forum. So far we have only been on lakes, and slow moving rivers, (and probably will keep it that way for a good while) but we're having lots of fun. Just wanted to say Hi, and I'm enjoying the reading here while trying to further my education of kayak paddling.

Hi! Welcome to the forum. Recreational paddling is so much fun and I find it so relaxing. Like you and your wife, I prefer flat-water paddling and calm rivers. Do you have a tandem kayak or each of you have your own boat?

We each have a kayak. Mine is a Perception Prodigy 12, and my wife's is a Wilderness Pamlico 100. I felt the 12 footer was mandatory for me as I'm 6', 230 lbs. We've only had them out a few times, but we really enjoy it, and fortunately, have not had to go swimming yet.:D

Great to have you join the community Steve! I would love to hear about your paddling locations as I am traveling to Texas this year and would like to know more about places to go before hand.

Thanks,

Hello Michael,

Being so new to the sport/hobbie, I only have experienced a few places. Guadalupe River is a favorite in this area, and there are many sections of the river from small lakes around Kerville, TX, to river below that with sections of slow water, and some rapids up to class II, I would estimate, and a few small water falls. All this above Canyon Lake, and below that lake, refered to around here as Lower Guadalupe River, it's a little wilder with several class III rapids. Then there is a non-motorized lake at Boerne, TX, and good for us beginners. There are several others in the area like Blanco River, San Marcos River, San Antonio River, Medina River, Frio River, and these are all smaller, but still places I want to expereince. So far, I've only been on the Frio, Boerne Lake, and the upper end of Canyon Lake.
