new to kayaking here. I live close to the water, down a road. I've been looking at kayak carts and would like some insight. I have a tandom 19 ft (weighs about 80 lbs.) and a 16 ft single. I would like to haul these both to the water. There are so many choices. I've read reviews and am still having trouble making up my mind. I have read a few where some mounted two kayaks on the same cart, then I look at the cart and think, how did they do that? If anyone has a mind to help someone extremely green at this, I'd sure appreciate it.

if you have sit-on kayaks you can nestle one into the other and use one cart, but sit-in's one cart per kayak just my 2 cents

Thanks, they are not sit on. so that explains why it didn't make sense to me!

I like the Wheeleez Mini Kayak Cart (http://www.kayakreview.org/go/WheeleezMiniKayakCart/) (I have two of them) because it can fit inside the hatches of a touring kayak (you have to take the wheels off the cart, but that's easy and doesn't require any tools).

I made my own kayak trolley. It consists of three pieces of wood screwed together and a set of old push chair wheels. It will fit into the rear compartment of my kayak if I remove the wheels. The only problem I find is that when pulling the kayak over rough ground it tends to slide off and has to be re-adjusted every few yards. It is strapped to the kayak using the same nylon webbing that I use to strap the kayak to the roof of the car.
I tried to add a photo but could not work out how to do it!!

This is what I am using, it is a Swagman Yakart Kayak Cart, picked it up for 50.00 on Ebay.
I like that is moves over rough ground at the lake pretty well.

This looks similar to the one I finally ordered. Do you think with a 19 footer, the back end would drag the ground or bounce off the ground if I centered it? I don't think I could pull it without the weight being distributed by centering. I should have kept up with that Richard Simmons video years ago!

Christy,
You will find a balance point that works best for the area you are traversing. Sometimes I have to shift the boat to give me move leverage, just remember that unless you have the cart at the very end of the boat you will not have the full load to pick up.

Thanks for your help. We're really excited about going out the first time, and if the weather stays nice, it'll be soon.

I was going to buy one from Dick's. However the price jumped from seventy bucks to around one fifty. I looked online for homemade carts and built one out of a milk crate, a few pieces of PVC and two wheels from Northern Tool. Total cost was fifty bucks. I can remove the wheels and stow it on the back of my kayak. I have a sit on top.
