I am in the market for a touring kayak for myself but am having a hard time finding a nice touring kayak!! I'm not looking for a sit down one but one that encloses my legs and body. I am around 6'3" and weight around 250, does anyone have any suggestions? Thank you

i was 240 6'3" when i bought my 14-6 Perception Carolina. that thing cuts through 2 ft waves with no problem and the rudder helps. i kayak Delaware bay with it.

The Wilderness Systems Tsunami 145 (http://www.kayakreview.org/go/tsunami145/) is a popular choice for bigger paddlers.

I am 250 at 5'11" and have no problems with my Tsunami 145. I think you would fit.

Most important: A boat can haul a load that could break down a pack horse, track like an arrow, turn on a dime and be fast as the wind, but if you can't get in and out easily, and be comfortable in it for several hours, it is not the boat for you. The only way to be sure it fits you is to try it on; if it doesn't fit, look elsewhere.

The boats on this list are chosen with the reasonable expection or actual experience that my 300-lb. mass can fit in the cockpit. However, I have not tried out all these boats, as much as I'd like to.

Some boats are largely regional boats, such as Nomad, Pacific Water Sports and Nimbus. These boats may not be available for demonstrations across the country.

If your interested in a project that you may enjoy the return from for years, take a look at the Borealis XL by pygmy boats, good luck!

I am myself 6'2 and 215 lbs. I have had a problem finding a kayak that is suitable for my size. Some traditional sea kayaks will work, but if you look at the kayaks made specifically for large people they may go from "works" to "really comfortable". The ones I have found that are for people of my size and sit inside has been from Point (sea cruiser and sea rover), SKUK (formerly NDK) their adjusted kayaks include Romany Surf, Romany HV and explorer HV. Tiderace (Xplore XL), Scorpio. In fact, both SKUK and Tiderace (explorer HV and Xplore XL) are too big for me.

I finally selected Romany surf and it has been very perfect for me. can easily be paddled in Surf, takes high waves (a little above a meter) without any problems. But explorer and Xplore can take more packing and are more touring sized.
