What are some of the notable sights (funny, beautiful, scary, interesting) you have come across while out and about on the water?
The most recent sight I can recall was several days after a huge rain. It was on a gentle river that flows into a lake. The rain had washed out all manner of debris from the land around the river so sadly there was a lot of trash. I was paddling along the edge of some woods and thought I saw a “head” floating:eek:. I cautiously paddled over to investigate it and was very pleased to learn it was only a Wilson basketball. :oLol! The ball was dirty and the light and shadows were hitting it in a way that it appeared to be something out of the Twilight Zone. I did move the ball so it could float freely down the river, so perhaps another waterdog like me could get a scare/laugh out of it.

Glad it was only a Bball.
Lets see on Lake Taneycomo I saw on the side of a cliff that I don't how you would get there a boarded up Gold Mine had me thinking how in the world would you get there. Then it hit me, Taneycomo was formed from dam at the Powersite Dam below it in 1913 and was a warm water lake until Table Rock Dam was built above it in 1954-58 it became a cold water lake. So the Mine had to be there before 1913.

I had a bird start diving at my bow this past summer just inside of Plum Island Newburyport. It was almost out of a Hitchcock movie.

Those are good. Wonder what happened to the ball.
I once had a beaver jump on my kayak, just sat there looking at me for a moment and then jumped back in the river. Wish I had a camera.

Oh the second time we were out paddling in kayaks still trying to learn the ropes, I see a water snake ok just the wake of a water snake just ahead of her. I let her know instead of back paddling......she panics and just glides right over it...I let things cool down for about an hour and then explained what would have been a better approach to the situation. I said by not changing your direction and just freezing you glided right over it and it could have come up a scupper hole. She answers great...now you tell me. Ever since that time she wants me to put the scupper plugs in. I just don't understand why, good thing I didn't also say "or even up over the side".

I hope the ball floated further on its journey and succeeded in getting some unsuspecting fishermen’s adrenaline pumped up like it did for me when I encountered the darn thing. Every time I paddle that particular run of the Green River I have to laugh inside when I pass the “freaky floating head” area. Hey, now that I think of it… that stretch of the river would make a fun October haunted head paddle. I could even stage some interesting highlights just for the Halloween season and take some of my innocent new paddlers through the area.
I have seen a few beavers in the water and signs of them working on small trees that line the river. But I’ve never had an up-close personal encounter with one like you have. If one ever jumped on my short boat I’m certain I would have a knee jerk reaction  of swatting it off with my paddle.

I recently went kayaking on the intercoastal and a herd (Not sure what a group of sea cows are called ) of Manitees swam by. I paddled over to 2 hanging closed to a dock and my kayak got bonked by one surfacing... spooked me alittle haha
I've seen some pretty neat things paddling Misquito Lagoon also. Speaking of which I always seem to cross paths with something out of the ordinary out there. Haha, but thats a different story.

Ok, not scary but more funny.... Paddling across a lake, in the distance I see a family of Swans gently swimming across the lake, oh ya, I want a picutre of these majestic birds. I paddle up slowly so not to disturb or scare them, nor get too close, father, mother and 4 baby swans. I lay my paddle across my bow, take out my camera and zoom in for a nice shot. All of a sudden, father bird takes off in flight, walking across the water, squaking, coming straight at me with a vengence from about 30 feet away, I react by throwing my camera aside (whew, waterproof) and stuggle not to capsize as I reach for the safety of my paddle. the "beast" stopped about 5 feet from the kayak, time to turn around and leave them alone. Ask my paddling partner, "did you get a picture of that?" response: "hell no, I was too busy laughing..."
