You know I have never thought about fishing while I was out doing some flat water kayaking... but am thinking this summer I might try it.
Now where the heck is my fishing pole... oh I don't own a fishing pole! LOL

It adds a whole new dimension to fishing when you latch on to a big one and HE pulls YOU. Even a 5 pound bass will move a kayak and a 15 pound northern pike will give you a ride. We started fishing from a coupls of Old Town Otters and moved up to Future Beach 144's. We fish from SIK's as here the water is cold most of the year and it is NO fun to sit in cold water.

Hi All,
Feeling a bit like a lurker replying to a thread that was last posted in 2009, but since this is the stickied Fishing Thread, what the heck.
Other than fishing from canoes in the two local lakes as well as anytime I can get a ride in any other sort of boat to do it, that is about all the "on the lake-in a boat" type fishing that I have done here. After reading an article in the March issue of Popular Mechanics on fishing from Kayaks, the bug bit, hard. According to the article, a Mr. Dave Lamoureux fishing off of Cape Cod, regularly goes after Blue Fin Tuna in the three figure weight range. His biggest catch to date is a 157 pounder that gave him a "Nantuckett Sleigh Ride" that he claims approached speeds of up to 15 miles per hour. Having gone after Yellowtail Tuna off the Belmont Pier Dayboats in LA and wrestling with 125 to 150 pounders, I can relate. :)
Here at Lake Mead and Mojave we have Striped Bass that can go well over 30 pounds, I have gotten one that went 35 and he towed the 16 foot canoe I was in like it was motorized. I can only imagine what it would be like in a much lighter and aerodynamic Kayak hull. Well, I won't have to imagine for much longer, June 11 is the payday that will see me with enough in the bank to afford one and I may have to wait until the 15th or 16th to get my hot little hands on it (days off don't fall on paydays for me), I can assure you that I will find out what it is all about. With my luck, I just hope that my own personal Nantuckett Sleigh Ride doesn't take me into the path of some beered up tourist piloting a rented Scarab at insane speeds as they often do.
I have marvelled at the videos on the Hobycat site, gone over a whole lot of other sites and searches for anything relating to fishing Kayaks I could find. While there are a lot of kayaks that are designed for such things, most of them seem to be well into the four figure zone, not exactly my idea of a beginner. As we do have a Bass Pro Shop here in Las Vegas and I can pick up a 10 foot long, 31 inch wide, sit in Ascend A10 model in Bright Yellow (praying that visability will save my bacon at some point) for just under the $300 mark, that is what I am planning on. If anyone has any ideas or suggestions to alter those plans before the specified date, I would be interested in hearing about it. I have been going over the local Craigs' List postings regularly hoping to see something that would come close, but all that I am finding are small flat bottom john boats and canoes in that price range. The local news and sale papers seems to have the Bass Boat market pretty well covered but very few to none in the Kayak types.
I am somewhat surprised that there isn't more about piscatorial pastimes in here though. Surely we have a few anglers amoungst the lucky few posting here.

Dont even need to be in a kayak for that one to yank you haha. I'm looking forward to it.
