Hello Every one,

I just joined this site and am hoping to gain guidance. I just got back into kayaking this year. I kayaked as a kid, with little to know training. After much research I settled on buying a Delta Expedition 15.5. I am loving this boat! I have it out at least 5 times a week and can easily handle getting up and off my jeep by myself. So far I have been putting in on local lakes (in Minnesota) and working to build up my stamina and upper body strength. I also hike daily, bike and ride dressage so I am in pretty good shape for a 50 year old. My goal is to be able to take longer camping trips with this boat on larger lakes and rivers.

What I am seeking is guidance in education. I would like to find some one in my area who can teach me the finer points of kayaking. I want to be a capable paddler before taking off on the big trips. I am comfortable in my boat for the water I have been on...up to 30 mile per hour sustained winds....but know there is so much more I need to know and be able to do before I can really be safe on big trips. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Linda

Linda Welcome to the Community.

That is a great first boat and will be something that you will be able to grow into. I suggest you start using the search feature and seeing what answers may be found, if you have questions, please post them. We have many that paddle at all levels and will know how to guide you.

To find someone in your area to learn from, you can either post here more info about your location, where you want to paddle and perhaps some specifics on what you would like to learn.

Another good place for information locally on somone to paddle with would be your local outfitter. Let me know where you live and I can send you some info on local outfitters in your area.

Have a great day and paddle safe.

Linda, kayak instructors in the U.S. are certified through the American Canoe Association (http://www.americancanoe.org/). Visit their website to search for instructors in your area. Happy & safe paddling!
