I have only done some kayaking at camp and at my aunt's cottage but I do want to get my own. When I do I will just be lake paddling in a usually calm lake. So basically I'm a kayaking newbie and I was wondering what kayak is best for me, what to look for, etc.
Thanks :)

Well I found a used kayak (Prijon brand) that comes with a paddle, neoprene spray skirt, floating things (forget the name, they help the kayak stay a float better in rough water or with a heavy load), a helmet, a life jacket and a kit to attach it to the roof of a car. All I will need is a safety kit! And it is all for only $350! :D

I didn't want to invest a lot of money for my first boat so I picked up a used boat from a guy that was upgrading to a fishing kayak. If you could find a little Perception "Swifty" used it would be a great starter. The name is misleading as it's not a long streamline fast kayak. They are short (9.5 ft.) so they turn directions great in tight places. They are wide and real stable. They are small enough that I can load and unload it by myself. I have used and abused the bottom of my boat LOL and it's still ready to hit the lake. I purchased this boat to play with and for the price, I've more than received 20 times more pleasure than anything else I could have wasted my money on. Another good thing about a used boat is you won't be worried about every little scratch it gets. Have fun and don't forget your life jacket.
