I am new to kayaking this year, and I am perhaps a bit crazy and certainly very ambitious. I live in the Kansas City Mo. area and I kayak up the Missouri river. That’s UP the Missouri. I average about 2 miles an hour and generally I paddle for around 10 hours so I make around 20 miles a day. I have a Jackson Day Tripper 12. It is an open body kayak. Not much of a kayak really, but it has served me well enough. I certainly push it beyond anything it was meant to do. What I am after is information about what kayak I should buy. Paddling against the current is challenging enough without being in a kayak that was meant for lakes and still water. I truly believe that if I had an appropriate craft I could make perhaps 30 miles a day. Any suggestions as to what I should buy? Do you recommend a rudder?
